Senior programmers have a set of approaches that they’re comfortable appying over and over. While that can be effective, it inhibits learning new ideas. Picking the Least-privileged Idea helps the mob learn.
When the mob is considering multiple ideas, pick the one that comes from the person with the least status.
What determines least status is contextual.
- Least status person feels listened to and part of the team. This helps them with potential imposter syndrome.
- Opens the door to getting genuinely new ideas.
